Costa Rica has 2 International Airports. The closest airport to Casa Las Brisas and the one we recommend flying into is Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, Costa Rica. It’s a 45 minute drive to the house. The other airport is Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in the Capital city of San Jose. From there it’s a good 4 hour drive to the house.

Rental cars are widely available at both airports. We do recommend an SUV, especially if you’re going to want to do some exploring.

Both airports are serviced by all the North American carriers (Delta, American, Southwest, United, Air Canada, etc.) with non-stop service from many US and Canadian cities. It’s an easy 3.5 hour flight from Atlanta, Dallas or Houston and only 2.5 hours from Miami. There are even some direct flights from various cities in Europe. There are 2 domestic airlines in Costa Rica (Sansa, Nature Air);  just be aware that they have very limited baggage capabilities.

Drive From Liberia Airport (LIR) to Casa Las Brisas (approx 45 minutes)

As you leave the airport you’ll make a right onto Route 21. Continue south through the towns of Comunidad and Filadelphia to the town of Belen. In Belen you’ll find a well marked 3 way intersection with a strip mall and gas station on the southwest corner. Here you’ll want to turn right onto Route 155 towards the beach towns of Flamingo, Tamarindo and Brasilito. As you drive through the small town of Huacas you will see signs for Flamingo where you’ll turn right. Follow this road and you’ll cross a small bridge into the beach town of Brasilito. Stay on the paved road which turns right and follow it all the way into Flamingo.

Drive from San Jose (SJO) to Casa Las Brisas (approx 4 hours)

From SJO follow the Highway 1 (Pan American Highway) north to the junction with Highway 18. Make a left towards the Amistad (Friendship) Bridge) and follow the signs to Santa Cruz and then to Flamingo.

All the roads from either airport to Flamingo are all paved and well marked.

Enjoy your journey and see you soon.
